In July 2024, Xirilaw presented a two-part talk for foreign entrepreneurs in Taiwan. Our goal was to clarify the different types of companies in Taiwan and guide them through the setup process.
In the first part, Peter Lin outlined the key differences between the two most common types of companies for startups: the “Limited Company” and the “Company Limited by Shares.” He discussed various aspects, such as shareholder voting rights, management structure, and transfer restrictions. Additionally, the session covered the “Close Company” under the “Company Limited by Shares,” a popular choice among startups.
We also recognized that many foreign entrepreneurs might already own companies abroad and want to understand the differences between subsidiaries and branches under Taiwanese law. Therefore, we provided an overview of the pros and cons of each option, helping attendees identify the best fit for their needs.
In the second part, Maiya Mai walked through the procedures for foreigners to establish subsidiaries and branch offices in Taiwan. This step-by-step guide covered the company registration process, equipping the audience with knowledge to navigate potential challenges.
By the end of the talk, participants were better equipped to choose the most suitable company type and understand the registration process in Taiwan.
The following presentation material is intended to briefly summarize the talk:
